Well, hello again.

It’s been a while. Over the past four months or so, other matters have kept me too busy to attend to this site. I never stopped cooking, but I did lose the energy necessary to test recipes, take careful notes on ingredients, and photograph the end results in the proper light of day. And the jury is still out on whether or not we’re back for good… but for now, as in life in general, we’re trying to make the most of things, and today is a good day. Continue reading

Delectable Dolmas

finsihed2Dolmas are one of those foods I had to grow into as an adult. Like beets (too red), and avocados (too mushy)–dolmas, with their unappetizing dark green color and oily exterior were a big no-no for a long, long time. Barhi Date and Bitter Greens Salad

We eat a lot of salads, as meals. So to avoid the lettuce, tomato, cucumber snoozefest, I’m always on the lookout for something new to throw in the bowl. A few weeks ago it was a branch of delightful Barhi dates from Flying Disc Ranch. Fresh Barhi dates–bright yellow and firm–are usually only available August through September, but maybe, just maybe, you might spot some still hanging around the market.
